Tasked with creating a project that takes a print medium into the three dimensional space, I created this one-of-one artist book to house my favorite feminist short story, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gillman.
In hoping to implement a unique physical process into my printing, I crumpled and folded pages gradually to create gaps and texture as the narrative of insanity and isolation increases. This visual cue mimics the character’s emotional experience and her process of peeling the paper off the walls.
In the realm of typography, I set out with the task of hand lettering the 6,000 word story, with the intention of the type mirroring the chaos of the protagonist’s deteriorating mental state. In this unintentionally “method” process my hand and mind tired as I too was holed up in my room alone for hours (expect I had the company of The Real Housewives, of course).
